El presente curso se refiere a aspectos de la Biología Computacional que tratan con datos biológicos básicos y a pequeña escala (por ejemplo, bases de ADN, ARN o proteínas), aspectos que con frecuencia se agrupan bajo el término de Bioinformática.

En definitiva se trata de almacenar, organizar, recuperar y analizar grandes cantidades de datos biológicos que permitan realizar operaciones tales como búsquedas o alineamiento de secuencias, predicción de expresiones genéticas, montaje genómico, alineamiento y predicción estructural de proteínas, interacciones proteína-proteína, y modelado de la evolución.

El concepto fundamental de la Biología Computacional consiste en la utilización de recursos computacionales para solucionar o investigar problemas biológicos en escalas y cantidades de datos que sobrepasan la capacidad humana.

1. Introduction to computational biology and big data omics analysis.

2. Microarray data analysis. Gene differentiation. Application to cancer diagnosis.

3. Next Generation Sequencing. Data Analysis.

4. Introduction to Multiple Sequence Alignments.

5. Introduction to proteomics: Protein structure prediction and protein-protein interactions.

6. Brief introduction to Computational methods for classification and optimization in bioinformatics.

7. Applications.

Indra’s Cybersecurity chair is the result of a collaboration agreement between Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) and Indra Sistemas S.A.

Its purpose is to foster research and education in topics related to cybersecurity and cyberintelligence.

The chair is bound to UC3M’s Computer Science and Engineering Department through its COSEC Lab (Computer Security Laboratory).

The agreement is intended to last for four years, which can be successively renewed for the same period.

The chair’s main guide lines are:

  • Implementation of research, development and innovation (R&D&I) projects.
  • Dissemination the achieved results of chair activities.
  • Develop ment of learning programmes.
  • Mutual advice in topics related to Indra and UC3M activity.
  • Organization of common activities to broadcast and disseminate scientific culture and technical achievements.
  • Any other within the availability limits of Indra and UC3M that may be considered of mutual interest within the context of the chair.

The chair’s director is Professor Arturo Ribagorda Garnacho.
