Ciencia de la Computación e Inteligencia Artificial

I got my BS in Computer Science at the Polytechnic University of Madrid in 1997. After two years working for a company as a DB designer and administrator, I decided to undertake doctoral studies. I joined two European Research projects (2000 and 2002), working in the 'Human-like Interaction' research area. I got a PhD in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the Polytechnic University of Madrid in 2005, introducing a joint action dialogue model for human-like interaction.

In parallel, I joined the Carlos III University of Madrid (2000) to develop the complementary facet of teaching. First as assistant lecturer in the Computer Science Department, I went through different positions until assistant professor. In all those years, I have mainly focused my teaching in File Structures and Databases in BS studies, and Big Data technologies in MS degree programs. My teaching is in two languages, Spanish and English. During these years, I also took part in the University management needs, performing as member of academic commissions and Department Secretary.

In the years following my PhD, I took part in nine research projects, all funded by institutions of the Spanish Government through competitive calls. In three of them, I was the main researcher (director). I have some papers in journals, conferences, and have been invited to some symposiums. I spent a term (four months) at the Computer Department of the Kent University in UK, researching in the confluence of Big Data and privacy. Last but not least, I’m the director of four (already finished) PhD thesis.

My research interests have developed around human-like (robotic) interaction and massive storages. On one hand, knowledge models to support imitating a human being through the interactive process: Dialogue Model, Presentation Model, NLP and interfaces, Ontology, User Model and Situation Model (among others). Some research in this last model led me to the metaheuristic algorithms, which quickly caught my attention, especially the ACO algorithms. On the other hand, back-end tools to support massive storage, Big Data technology and Semantic Restructuration of storages.
